Relics of War (relicsofwar.com) is published by Historical Publications LLC, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. You can read every page without an account, a password, or a purchase. This page lays out, plainly, what information does change hands when you visit and who handles it.

What we do not collect

Hosting and security

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like every web host, Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser details with each request so it can deliver the page and turn away automated abuse. That information is used to operate and protect the site, not to build a profile of you. If Cloudflare asks your browser to pass a quick security check, it may set a short-lived cookie recording that you passed.

Photographs and listing links

Listings, photographs, and price records come from ArtifactSearch.com and link to ArtifactSearch and to the dealers and auction houses that offer the pieces. Listing photographs load from ArtifactSearch's image service, so ArtifactSearch receives the ordinary request information needed to deliver them. Membership, saved searches, and alerts are provided by ArtifactSearch.com under its own privacy policy.

Banner advertisements

The banners on these pages are served by ArtifactSearch.com, a service of Historical Publications LLC, not by an outside ad network. When a banner is seen or clicked, ArtifactSearch records which banner it was, whether it was seen or clicked, the page and site it appeared on, the time, and your browser's user-agent line (for example, "Chrome on a Mac") so automated traffic can be screened out. To choose which banner to show, the page also tells ArtifactSearch what kind of page it is (for example, the home page or an article), the section it belongs to, and whether it is being viewed on a phone or a computer. None of this identifies you. It sets no cookies. Your IP address is used only to limit repeated requests and is not stored. To rotate banners from page to page, the ad script keeps a small counter in your browser's session storage; it holds only a number and is cleared when you close the tab. Clicking a banner takes you to the advertiser's own website, which has its own privacy practices.

Newsletter sign-up

The foot of each page carries an optional sign-up box for the Historical Publications newsletter. If you fill it in, your name and email address go to Constant Contact, the service that sends the newsletter, and are used only to send it. The form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which checks that a real person is signing up. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you by email. We never share the list.

Cookies

The site's own pages set no cookies. The cookies you may receive come from Constant Contact and Google reCAPTCHA in the newsletter form and, if Cloudflare runs a security check, a short-lived Cloudflare cookie. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings and every page will still work.

Email

If you email us, your address and message are used to answer you and for nothing else. We do not add you to any mailing list without asking.

Children

This site is written for collectors, historians, and researchers. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

We will update this page if our practices change and note the review date above.
