About Relics of War
Last reviewed 2026-08-15
Relics of War is a publication of Historical Publications LLC of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina — the publishers of Civil War News, Military Antique Collector, and The Rampant Colt, the official publication of the Colt Collectors Association.
What this site is
Relics of War is the curated companion to ArtifactSearch.com, the marketplace search engine for military antiques. ArtifactSearch is comprehensive: every listing from every participating dealer and auction house, fully searchable. Relics of War takes a narrower, more deliberate view of the same material:
- Discovery by war and category — the marketplace organized the way collectors think about it: Civil War firearms, World War I uniforms, Indian Wars photography.
- Identification — guides that help you tell an original from a reproduction before money changes hands.
- Values — a price guide computed from recorded sales, with sample sizes shown on every figure, never from asking prices.
What this site is not
Relics of War does not sell anything, does not take a commission, and does not appraise or authenticate individual pieces. Every listing shown here links to its page on ArtifactSearch and on to the dealer or auction house that actually offers it. Sold prices come from that seller's published results.
Who is behind it
Jack Melton is the publisher, editor, and photographer behind Historical Publications LLC. The company's titles have served collectors, historians, and researchers of American military history for decades; Relics of War brings the same editorial standards to the marketplace.
Membership
Membership is free and lives on ArtifactSearch.com: create an account to save searches, receive alerts when a piece like yours comes to market, and keep your favorites in one place. Relics of War has no separate membership and no paywall.
